Surprising Benefits of Article Marketing
It’s a double edged sword that one of the reasons why I’m as good at Social Media Marketing as I am is because I truly enjoy it.
I read blog posts and watch videos about how some Twitter users are reluctant to follow other users and just want to build their own followers (which some people find selfish and annoying) and it’s impossible for me to relate to. I get so carried away with connecting with cool people that I actually follow a LOT more people than follow me back, and although that might earn me cool points with some people I lose cool points with others…
After all, if they’re not following me back it must be a “me” thing, right? That my Tweets aren’t that valuable; not a “them” thing? (smile)
I can see I would have to spend a lot more time on Twitter to really be able to follow the conversations, so maybe it’s a good thing I don’t; I already get baited down a lot of non-productive paths, but that really is a “me” thing and not a “them” thing.
I marvel at the journey I’ve been on for the last few years and although I love the person I’ve grown to become, I wouldn’t really wish those lessons on anybody. They have been far too expensive for way too many people, and like buying on credit, there’s still some “payments” to be made – work to be done. So, some days I count getting out of bed as my big accomplishment for the day and anything that happens after that is just gravy!
Ya gotta laugh…
All that to say that it’s just not unusual these days for me dawdle and avoid by hanging out on my favorite social sites.
I’m just gonna make it okay, at least for today.
The really cool thing about the dawdling and avoiding though, is that I’ve managed to track down and re-connect with some of my favorite people in the universe, and I don’t think I would have found them if I had been spending less time there.
I do firmly believe that Networking with people is like Education; none of it EVER goes to waste and it’s surprising the ways that it comes back to help us in life, often when we least expect it.
So – the article marketing? One of my cousin’s read an article of mine and got in touch with me! Awesome. His contact information had changed and we’d lost touch with each other and it was just made my day to hear from him.
I am a Connector by nature (see my post on “Tipping Point”) so I’m a natural evangelist for Social Marketing; I’m constantly working to get my people connected with me in my favorite watering holes and I’m always going out of my way to get them connected to their community at large. Being plugged in is what will keep them coming back for more.
So, I encourage you to be positive about your marketing and networking efforts because it WILL pay off – I promise you – and learning to make it pay off the way you want it to is just part of the learning curve that comes with the territory!
