Sometimes counseling or therapy is not only helpful, but it can even be necessary when working through issues, but coaching is not therapy. 

Coaching is about looking forward to the future while therapy is about understanding and resolving the past.

Therapy is about healing:  Coaching is about achievement

Therapy is about understanding:  Coaching is about taking action

Therapy is about safety:  coaching is about creating momentum

Therapy is about progress:  Coaching is about human performance

Therapy is about protecting  Coaching is about attracting the positive

Therapy is about resolving:  Coaching is about creating opportunities

Therapy is about getting closure:  Coaching is about creating new openings
